Query letter

Query Letter for Curse the Darkness

Dear [Agent's Name],

I am seeking representation for my novel, Curse the Darkness, a 90,000-word multicultural crime thriller that blends the brutal realism of Don Winslow’s The Power of the Dog with the Shakespearean tragedy of The Godfather and the neo-Western grit of Yellowstone. Based on my real-life experiences, this novel explores the collision of Italian-American organized crime, Native American street gangs, and the Mexican cartels, revealing the generational cycles of violence and redemption in modern America.

When Joseph “Joey” Di Latiano, a ruthless New York mob boss, moves his empire to San Diego’s Little Italy, he ignites a deadly turf war with La Eme, the Mexican Mafia. But he never expected to come face-to-face with his past—his estranged nephew, Christopher Di Latiano, a man who left the life behind for the quiet solitude of a ranch in the Sierra Nevada. Christopher has spent years trying to outrun his family’s criminal legacy, but when violence reaches his doorstep, he is forced back into a world of blood oaths and betrayals.

As Christopher struggles between his loyalties to his Native American street-gang homies, his corrupt Mafia uncle, and his own moral compass, he learns the truth about his father’s murder—a secret that threatens to pull him deeper into the underworld. Torn between the need for vengeance and his grandfather’s dying wish to make the Di Latiano name honorable again, Christopher must choose: become the gangster he swore he’d never be or risk everything to break the cycle of violence.

Curse the Darkness is inspired by true events, real people, and real places, drawn from my personal life experiences. Having witnessed firsthand the intersections between organized crime, Native American gang culture, and law enforcement, I bring an authentic, lived-in perspective to this world. The novel tackles themes of heritage, violence, and the struggle for redemption, making it a compelling read for fans of gritty crime dramas and character-driven thrillers.

I am submitting to you because of your interest in dark, realistic crime fiction with strong cultural and historical themes. The manuscript is available upon request, and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss it further.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
