Breaking the Cycle: Why I Wrote Curse the Darkness

"Curse the Darkness" is my serialized blog novel about a boy named Christopher Michael di Latiano, who witnesses his father's murder in Astoria, New York. That one moment shatters everything and sets him on a path to confront the legacy of violence, silence, and survival that shaped his family. But this isn’t just another Mafia story.

I didn’t want to glamorize the mob or rehash the usual tropes. I wanted to explore deeper themes—culture, identity, and the way history has a way of repeating itself. For me, this story isn’t about continuing to stereotype my fellow Italians. It’s about challenging those stereotypes, and offering what I believe is a more honest, personal, and unique perspective within the genre. Through Christopher’s journey, I’m trying to reflect on the choices we inherit—and the ones we make to break the cycle.
